Functions

Description
EC Number 4.1.3.1 Oxo-acid-lyases
Subcellular Localization
  • Cytoplasm
  • Secreted, extracellular space, extracellular matrix
  • Vacuole
  • Localizes in extracellular vesicles during growth on lown glucose
  • When glucose is added to glucose-starved wild-type cells, levels of extracellular ICL1 get reduced
  • Targeted to the vacuole for degradation in 3-day-starved cells

3 GO annotations of cellular component

Name Definition
cytoplasm The contents of a cell excluding the plasma membrane and nucleus, but including other subcellular structures.
extracellular region The space external to the outermost structure of a cell. For cells without external protective or external encapsulating structures this refers to space outside of the plasma membrane. This term covers the host cell environment outside an intracellular parasite.
vacuole A closed structure, found only in eukaryotic cells, that is completely surrounded by unit membrane and contains liquid material. Cells contain one or several vacuoles, that may have different functions from each other. Vacuoles have a diverse array of functions. They can act as a storage organelle for nutrients or waste products, as a degradative compartment, as a cost-effective way of increasing cell size, and as a homeostatic regulator controlling both turgor pressure and pH of the cytosol.

3 GO annotations of molecular function

Name Definition
isocitrate lyase activity Catalysis of the reaction: isocitrate = glyoxylate + succinate.
metal ion binding Binding to a metal ion.
methylisocitrate lyase activity Catalysis of the reaction: (2S,3R)-3-hydroxybutane-1,2,3-tricarboxylate = pyruvate + succinate.

2 GO annotations of biological process

Name Definition
glyoxylate cycle A modification of the TCA cycle occurring in some plants and microorganisms, in which isocitrate is cleaved to glyoxylate and succinate. Glyoxylate can then react with acetyl-CoA to form malate.
tricarboxylic acid cycle A nearly universal metabolic pathway in which the acetyl group of acetyl coenzyme A is effectively oxidized to two CO2 and four pairs of electrons are transferred to coenzymes. The acetyl group combines with oxaloacetate to form citrate, which undergoes successive transformations to isocitrate, 2-oxoglutarate, succinyl-CoA, succinate, fumarate, malate, and oxaloacetate again, thus completing the cycle. In eukaryotes the tricarboxylic acid is confined to the mitochondria. See also glyoxylate cycle.
